Managing Wealth

Working together, with a common goal.

How We Help

Understanding and appreciating a client’s risk profile is critical to their overall growth strategy.

Our private clients don’t avoid risk, they have people and structures in place to manage it.

Effective legal documentation is also critical.  Documents must be clear and concise, robust, and drafted in plain English.

It starts at the outset when investment vehicles and legal structures are created. Companies and trusts must be established as required. Joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, management agreements and other arrangements also need to be documented.

As a business grows there will be other documents to be prepared – including business policies and procedures, workplace policies, business terms and conditions, employment and contractor agreements, and the like.

If the business merges with another or is sold then further documentation will be required. All expectations and risks must be identified and addressed. Outcomes for individual family members and the family as a whole, need to be considered.

Business succession planning is also critical in the event of the death or incapacity of a founder.

Managing and protecting wealth may sometimes involve commencing or defending legal proceedings, if disputes arise.

Every family has their own dynamics. Some family members may be more involved in the family affairs than others. Some may have greater financial need than others. Some may have longer term goals than others. The documents need to take those into account.

Every client and their business are different, and every industry is different. Every client has their own wealth strategy and their own appetite for opportunity and for risk. We take this into account.

Managing wealth is not just about protecting money – it is about preserving family relationships and business relationships into the next generation.identified and addressed

Testimonials

I have been in business since 1974. For the first 6 years I had a partner, and DLS did a remarkable job helping me negotiate our partnership agreement.

In 1980 I decided to split from the partner and again DLS were very helpful in negotiating the breakup of the agreement.Since 1970 I have bought and sold several properties. All the transactions were handled by DLS and because they are so thorough with their work I have never had a problem, with any of them.

I have also bought several commercial properties over the last 40 years and again, all of the deals were handled with the assistance and expertise of DLS. They have also handled the leasing of the properties since we acquired them.

Over the past 40 or so years I have also had a couple of complex litigation matters. One particular problem involved a licensing arrangement with a UK distribution company. DLS were very helpful in terms of the legal strategy to be adopted throughout, and when we did ultimately resolve the matter, DLS prepared and negotiated the terms of settlement on our behalf.

I have also had countless phone calls to DLS over the years, seeking advice on a range of commercial matters. They are always helpful, businesslike, and friendly.

Since I commenced with them 43 years ago, I have never been to another lawyer.

I trust we will be working together for many years to come

Allan M

Over the years my accounting firm has referred many legal matters to DLS - including commercial matters, business structuring, land tax matters, complex estate planning matters, and deceased estate administration matters.

I have also worked closely with the senior lawyers at DLS in many of these matters. They always have a broad grasp of the legal issues at hand but what really sets them apart is that they present the issues in a very practical and commercial way. I would not hesitate to refer my clients to DLS in the future."

Jonathon I

I have been referring my clients to David Landa Stewart for many years.

These have been for straightforward conveyancing matters as well as more complex lending proposals.

They have always provided my clients with the highest level of service and attention to detail.

I can strongly recommend them and I will continue to send my clients to David Landa Stewart
