"Property tax hurting regional areas, Brogden says"
ABC News web site, 4 April 2005
New South Wales Opposition Leader John Brogden wants the State Government to change its property
tax regime, which he says is hurting regional areas.
Mr Brogden addressed real estate agents in Queanbeyan this morning, who are concerned about
the abolition of the land tax threshold and introduction of vendor duty, which people have to
pay when they sell their home.
"Investors are being slugged and indeed as a consequence the rent market is also tightening
so this is having an affect across the board, but for the Queanbeyan area it means that the
property market is in the doldrums and investors are hurting," he said.
