The NSW Government is defending a move to slug small business owners with land tax bills that are five years old. Graham West, NSW Parliamentary Secretary, says that this has to be followed up.

Jones says that small businesses are being 'slugged' with a Land Tax bill going back five years. He notes that if businesses rent crown land they are paying retrospective tax. Jones says that a letter from NSW Parliamentary Secretary, Graham West to the Sydney Lord Mayor, Clover Moore said the NSW Government had 'no authority to wave or reduce a tax that is properly payable'. Jones asserts that Land Tax in NSW is 'looting' and 'dishonest'.

Small businesses are being forced to pay land tax bills up to five years old despite many not knowing about the rules. NSW Parliamentary Secretary, Graham West says owners should be aware of their tax obligations.

Small businesses who rent crown land from State and Fed Governments could be charged tens of thousands of dollars as they are hit with land tax bills going back five yrs. The Telegraph says although the rule has been in place since 1991 the Office of State Revenue has only recently advised business owners.
